Jason Garrett to Taco Charlton on draft call: 'Marinelli and Leon Lett are waiting for your ass'

Before handing the phone to Jason Garrett, Jerry Jones told Taco Charlton on Thursday night that the Cowboys head coach had been "in here rooting for you all afternoon."

The Cowboys' official website posted some of the audio from Charlton's draft call Friday morning.

"We're awfully excited to have you," Garrett told the 28th overall pick. "A lot of it has to do with who you are. You've got a lot of ability, but a lot of it has to do with who you are as a person.

Marinelli, the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, told the young defensive end "he couldn't be more excited" about the pick.

"You know what I want?" Marinelli then asked. "I want another level to whatever you do."

After a brief chat with Jones, Garrett and Marinelli, Charlton participated in a conference call with reporters at The Star.

Here's how he described his conversation with Marinelli.

"He was just [asking] me if I was ready to work and letting me know when I get there it's going to be time to work, so I'm already looking forward," Charlton said. "I'm happy that Dallas took me, and I couldn't be happier to be in the position that I'm in to be coached by a great coach.

"He coached Julius Peppers in Chicago, so it's definitely a chance that I'd love to get."
