Joe Theismann: Why a good comparison for Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is Michael Vick

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has drawn various comparisons in his brief NFL career.

Some have said he's like Emmitt Smith. Some have even said that he's already better than Smith. Some say he's like LaSean McCoy. The list goes on. But all of those players Zeke is being compared to are running backs.

Joe Theismann has a different comparison for Dallas' star running back.

"As far as Ezekiel goes, he's a phenomenal running back," Theismann said on "The Afternoon Show with & Dennis & Cowlishaw" on ESPN 103.3 FM. "I compared Ezekiel to Michael Vick when Michael Vick was in the league."

He explained why:

"I don't think defenses really, really think he's as fast as he is. He gets outside against more teams. I think the linebackers, the ends and the safeties just feel like he's big guy and he's not going to have that speed outside. But he does. And Michael Vick was that way.

"How do you practice against speed? When Michael used to scramble; there was nobody on the scout team who could do what he does. I don't think there's anybody on a scout team that can do what Ezekiel does."

Theismann didn't stop with Elliott. He also praised Dak Prescott for being a "true consummate professional."

"How rare are what the Cowboys have in two guys that are vying for two separate awards in the National Football League?" Theismann said. "Either one of them could be considered an MVP. Either one could be considered the Rookie of the Year. And I think the Dallas Cowboys are very fortunate to have both of them. It's a combination of those guys playing well, executing, not making a lot of mistakes, not taking a lot of sacks, and the offensive line certainly is a contributing factor also.

"Dallas is a really, really solid football team. And if they keep going the way they're going everybody's going to have to go through Dallas if they want to play in the Super Bowl."
